Ever admired your friend’s earrings and then been blown away by hearing them say, “Oh, these? I made them a few months ago.” Want to make moccasins but aren’t sure where to start? Or have you ever had an idea for a perfect painting but aren’t sure how to put your ideas down on the canvas? We know how you feel. Sometimes it’s hard to make your artistic dreams reality, especially if you haven’t grown up with anyone who taught you those skills.
The good news is that there are LOTS of folks out there willing and ready to help. YouTube is your friend! There are so many amazing tutorials out there by artists who are willing to share their expertise online; get searching and get ready to
And luckily, we’re here to help too. 😉 One of our friends, the amazing Deanne Hupfield, actually has tutorials on how to make your own regalia! Her online workshops will teach you how to make your own jingle dress and give you access to a community of like-minded people who also want to learn. And if you’re interested in pow wow dancing your way to fitness, she’s got FREE tutorials for that too!
Our Rivers to Success program even got in on the action – check out the video we made on how to do brick stitch with the amazing Adrienne Thomas and Angela Campbell! Or, if textiles are more your thing, check out their ribbon skirt tutorial! If you start now, you just might have that special project for that special someone ready for the holidays. 😊
Another great place to find instructions (and willing teachers who know their stuff!) is your local Friendship Centre. Not only do they often run workshops teaching you how to create all kinds of beautiful art, wearable and otherwise, they’re also spaces where you can find great community. (And food – always important on a student budget!!) Find your local Friendship Centre here.
